Menorah and Star of David by Agam, Privately Issued Gold Medal, 1978, 35mm. 29.7 gm, 917 fine. Serial number 214 on edge. This great artist commemorates Israel's 30th anniversary of independence. Obverse features a menorah made from wire, with "Shalom" (peace) below. Reverse contains a hidden Star of David that is revealed when the medal is tilted at a certain angle, and the inscription "Star of Love" in English, French and Hebrew. A magnificent work of 20th century art. Brilliant Proof, with just a couple of microscopic contact marks on obverse.

Israel 32nd Anniversary of Independence by Marc Chagall, Privately Issued Gold Medal, 1979, 60mm. 93.3 gm. (3 troy oz.).917 fine. An absolutly magificent medal by one of the 20th century's great artists. Moses holds the tablets of the Ten Commandments next to a large menorah and a tree. This mystical symbolism relates to ancient well-springs from which flow the highest values of human life. Reverse inscription in Hebrew and English: "I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people for a light of the nations." Purity and Swiss assayer mark on edge. Choice Brilliant Proof.

Shortly after Ida Straus and businessman, former-Congressman, Isidor Straus chose to go down with the Titanic together rather than being separated. "Wireless" operator David Sarnoff (later head of RCA) received names of survivors. Designed by Alex Shagin. Uncirculated.
